Beaver, Oklahoma is the county seat of Beaver County in the eastern part of the state's panhandle. Beaver City is located approximately 151 miles NE of Amarillo, Texas. The countryside is open pastureland, though the residents of Beaver have cultivated many trees in residential neighborhoods.
Each spring Beaver stages the World Championship Cow Chip Throw where contestants participate from across the nation. The event receives worldwide media attention and by the town's own estimation, is the community's biggest claim to fame. The festivities honor the pioneering spirit, still alive today, and the period in the region's history when the only available source of fuel was buffalo or cow chips.
