Altus, Oklahoma is located in Jackson County in the southwest corner of the state. Altus is home to Altus Air Force Base and world-class businesses. Altus is surrounded by some of the nation's most productive agricultural land.

Just 17 miles to the north of Altus on SH-44A (Highway 283) sets the rugged beauty of Quartz Mountain State Park, nestled in the foothills of the Wichita Mountains. This romantic retreat features water recreation on Lake Altus, special seasonal programs, and the beautiful new Quartz Mountain Arts and Conference Center.

Altus is an active Main Street community. The Oklahoma Main Street Program is a downtown revitalization program administered by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.

Altus recently won recognition by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce for completion of Project 2002, a competition to improve parks.
