Mangum, Oklahoma is the county seat of Greer County in the southwest corner of the state. The town is surrounded by short-grass prairie and rangeland. Jurisdiction of the area was one of many bitter disputes during territorial days between Texas, Oklahoma Territory, and Indian Territory. Because of a mapping error that mistook the North Fork of the Red River for the Red River, the border between Texas and Oklahoma, Greer County was once considered a part of Texas.

Mangum was formerly a Certified City and has successfully transitioned to a Century Community.

Mangum has received a Community Development Block Grant to inventory infrastructure features for Capital Improvement Planning (CIP).
