Durant, Oklahoma is located in Bryan County in the southeastern part of the state. Durant is home of the headquarters of the Choctaw Nation, the third largest Indian tribe in the United States. Home of Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU), the Shakespearean Festival and local SOSU drama productions provide cultural experiences extraordinary for a city of this size.

The Kiamichi Skills Training Center provides a wide range of training options for local employers. Durant is only ten miles from Lake Texoma, one of the largest man-made lakes in the United States. Durant is the Magnolia Capital of Oklahoma.

Durant is an active Main Street community. The Oklahoma Main Street Program is a downtown revitalization program administered by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.

Durant was formerly a Certified City and has successfully transitioned to a Century Community.

Durant has received a Community Development Block Grant to inventory infrastructure features for Capital Improvement Planning (CIP).
